New startling pictures show Muslims in Dhaka, Bangladesh, heading home to their families in time for the Festival of Sacrifice. Some even pulled their friends and families up on to the roof to hitch a ride from up high. Falling on the tenth day of the Islamic calendar’s last month, Eid Al-Adha will be celebrated on Tuesday by millions of Muslims all over the world. The festival is part of the the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, known as the Haji. It remembers the prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son when God ordered him to, and families celebrate by sacrificing an animal, usually a sheep or a goat. In England, the animal has to be killed at a slaughterhouse. The meat is then shared out among family, friends and the poor, who each get a third share. Families also offer money to the poor to buy new clothes as part of the celebration.
